A high throuput screening platform has been developed for the systematic study of ice nucleation and supercooling in various biological and non biological systems. This platform has already been used in screening grasses, Arabidopsis, tobacco , citruses, grapes , ornamental and aromatic plants. Most importantly, we identified oregano plants with significantly different chemical profiles, to be used in versatile applications, such as the suppression of weeds in corn and cotton fields and the disinfection of rotifers used as a live feed in aquaculture . This platform facilitates the quick and efficient screening of a large number of samples.
Depending on the species, this platform facilitates the study at the molecular, organelle, cellular, tissue, organism or population level.
The platform facilitates the continuous monitoring of freezing events of various biological and non biological samples, usually in 96 well plate format. A software has been developed by Prof. Nickolas Liolios, Dr. Dimitris Zaragotas and Prof. Elias Anastassoopoulos for the analysis of the freezing data.
